QFAB Chemical Change 2015

May 27, 2015
Subject: Quartz Fabrication Process Chemicals Obsolescence
Dear Valued Customer:

I am writing to notify you that, starting June 1, 2015, Systron Donner Inertial (SDI) will phase-in switching over to new chemicals used to manufacture the quartz sensing elements which are assembled in the products you purchase from us. The chemical phase-in will run through August 2015 and the changes will impact every SDI product. The changes are due to an obsolescence issue with the chemicals we are currently using within the metal etch and positive resist pattern processes. Our intent is to manufacture the same quartz sensing elements as we did with using the current process chemicals. The process design and process flow is unchanged while certain fab steps will utilize new process consumables. Trial runs were conducted in 2014 and the evaluation data indicates this process change will not have any impact to product form, fit, function, performance, and/or reliability. Therefore, these changes should be fully transparent to the end user. SDI is currently executing a full qualification process for these new chemicals. The full qualification is targeted for completion by end of July 2015. SDI will start shipping gyros, IMUs & INS/GPS products using the new chemicals beginning August through November 2015. Supporting qualification data will be provided upon your request.

We stand ready to support any questions you may have regarding this chemical process change in SDI’s Quartz Fabrication Lab. Please contact your SDI Sales & Marketing Manager at the number below if you have concerns or questions you would like to discuss with us. We apologize for any inconvenience which this may cause you.

Best Regards and Thank You for your Trusted Business,
